Re: John Scott b. 1823 AL or TN

George --

The are two possibilities listed on the militia rosters. One is John W. Scott, Co. "F", 33rd Mississippi Regt., a company from Leake County. He appears in the 1860 census of Pontotoc County, age 26.

The other is Jonathan J. Scott, Co. "C", 17th Mississippi Regt., age 19. The company entered service as the "Quitman Grays".

Iris is asking about John Scott, age 37 on the census. Other than death or removal from the county, is there a good reason why he wouldn't appear on the 1863 militia rosters?

There are other John Scotts (no middle initial) on the NPS index for Mississippi units. Their units are:

Co. "E", 10th Mississippi Cavalry
Co. "F", 24th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion
Co. "G", 13th Mississippi Regiment
Co. "D", 20th Mississippi Regiment
Co. "B", 42nd Mississippi Regiment
Co. "F", 42nd Mississippi Regiment

Can anyone help with the company origins of these commands?
