Re: Civil War Hospital in Meridian MS in 1865

Regarding Civil War Hospitals in and around Meridian, Ms.

As previously noted in this thread there were three areas in and around Meridian where Civil War casualities were treated. They were Marion, Lauderdale Springs (actually a hospital complex where the hospitals of several commands were located) and, of course, in Meridian.

For more information on the two former, please see:

and

(caution: the URLs may wrap and need to be pasted into your browser address window carefully)

As for the city of Meridian, there were also several hospitals as well. The first was the Warren Hospital beginning sometime in 1862. Apparently no records have survived from this hospital. However, the Way and Yandell Hospital -- actually one hospital, having undergone a name change with the arrival of a new Chief Surgeon -- was the longest in existance.

Unfortunately, only the names of the deceased (fewer than 100, if memory serves) have been captured. The journal of the hospital is in the National Archives but is quite extensive and might yield the name(s) you are seeking.

I am planning to publish an article about the hospitals in Meridian as a companion to the two articles already published but this may not happen until the spring. Sorry for the delay.
