There is only one card in his service record file and that is that he was discharged on May 4, 1862 and subsequently paid on 10 May, Sgt. Co. I, Sam'l Holloway, 33rd Mississippi Infantry

33rd Regiment, Mississippi Infantry

33rd (Hardcastle's) Infantry Regiment [including the 3rd (Hardcastle's) Mississippi Infantry Battalion] was organized during the late spring fo 1862. In June it was stationed at Grenada and totalled 669 men and 397 condemned muskets. During the next month there were 31 officers and 475 men, and later it was redesignated the 45th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. Colonel Aaron B. Hardcastle, Lieutenant Colonel Richard Charlton, and Major Theodore A. Jones were in command.
