Information that George provided on the 33rd Mississippi Regiment shouldn't take long at all to read -- there's just not that much available on the web. At least four Howells (Solomon, Ransom, Malakiah and Levi) are on roll with the "Leake Rebels", Co. "F", 33rd Mississippi Regt. Solomon enlisted rather late, Oct. 31, 1863, Canton MS, and reported present on roll through the end of that year. We don't have any rolls available for 1864 or 1865, so no further information is available to offer.

Perhaps someone can check to see if a pension was granted in his name.
