I've heard and read that most soliders that fought with General Forrest, only a few were assigned or given permission, to carry a saber, and those who had sabers were with Forrest Escort. Is this a fact or fiction.
The reason I ask is my GGGrandfather was in Forrest cav.and up to the day of his death he had a saber hanging above his bed,as I've been told. But I also think that he could have pick it up and brought it back home after the war. Also wounder if any kinfoke who might read this,may know of such a saber belonging to C.M.vandiver,It would be nice to just see it.
