Another 'tidbit' on Prairie Mount from James Brieger's HOMETOWN MISSISSIPPI:

"Prairie mount had its beginning, five miles northwest of Okalona when Littleberg Gilliam settled on the old stage route in 1836. He opened his home to the public as an inn and became the found of the village which was named Prairie Mount.

Prairie Muont was incorporated in 1852 but on completeion of the railroad through Okalona in 1859 many business enterpreises and residents moved to Okalona, leaving Prairie Mount to desolation and finally to extinction about 1918."
