Re: Attn. George Martin
In Response To: Attn. George Martin ()

I use the American CW Research Database which provides a much greater wealth of data vs. that of the NPS Soldiers & Sailors System.

For Compiled Service Records, I use Footnote which has proven to be incomplete often. I prod them often when I find incomplete data. I find only two cards in the file for Cyrus, you seem to have received more. Please advise me of the number of cards you find for him and I will see what they have to say.

None-the-less, what I find is that Cyrus survived the war.

George Martin

Cyrus L. Oliver & Thomas D. Oliver both enlisted as a Privates in Company B, 24th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion (Moorman's), records indicate that Cyrus later transferred to Company E [American CW Research Database]

I do not find in any listing of a Cornelius L. Oliver. Perhaps Cornelius and Cyrus L. are one and the same, the brother being Thomas D.

Cyrus L. Oliver enlisted as a Private in (2nd) Company B, 24th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion August 30, 1864, among those with Company E surrendered at Citronella, Alabama May 4, 1865 and paroled at Gainesville, Alabama May 12, 1865 [CSRs]

Thomas D. Oliver was conscripted as a Private in (2nd) Company B, 24th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion November 24, 1863 at Brookhaven, recorded absent, sick on the August 31, 1864 muster, there are no later company muster rolls extant [CSRs]

Some of this company were paroled at the close of the war as

sippi and East Louisiana.

Companies A, B and C of this battalion were formed out of
Roberts' Battalion, Light Artillery, which upon the recommenda-
tion of Major-General [Stephen Dill] Lee was taken to the rear,
and by order of Lieutenant-General Polk, transferred to other
service. It was divided into three companies of cavalry on Febru-
ary 23, 1864 and these three, with three other unattached compa-
nies, by order of Lieutenant-General Leonidas Polk, constitute my
battalion. Most of the soldiers composing the battalion have been
in the Army since the Spring of 1861. Two of my companies are
on detached duty and I am not able to give the roster of officers
or muster rolls: soon as they report I will transmit the rosters
and muster rolls at once.
