Civil War officers on both sides of the conflict had to provide their own uniforms because officers did not have uniforms issued to them like enlisted personnel. Did this policy of paying for their own also apply to accoutrements and individual weapons? This inquiry is concerned more with junior/company grade officers than the upper echelon field grade officers.
