In an ongoing effort to identify as many as possible of the reported 263 otherwise unidentified Confederate soldiers buried in a mass grave at Shady Grove cemetery (Iuka) following the Battle of Iuka (19-20 Sept 1862), the following list has been compiled from a variety of sources representing casualties within the 38th Mississippi Infantry (later Mounted) Regiment.

Price, J.M. - 3d Lieut, Company E - KIA 19 Sept 1862 - Iuka
Thames, Joseph- Cpl, Company F - KIA 19 Sept 1862 - Iuka
Leonard, J.G. - Pvt, Company B - "Killed accidentally" on 23 Sept 1862 - during retreat from Iuka
Walch, William - Pvt, Company D - MIA 20 Sept 1862 - Iuka and "Supposed killed"
