Civil war ancestor

My gg grandad was James Andrew Martin b. 1826 Smith County, Mississippi died 1907 buried In Athens cemetery in Howard County, Arkansas. His file designation was James Martin Company G 37 Mississippi Infantry "Yancey Guards"
He signed a prisoner of war release on July 6, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi to Lieut. Gen. John C. Pemberton. I would like to know the trek of my gg grandad while he was in the 37th Mississippi Infantry Company G. Can anyone help me by giving me a resource about this regiment or at least give me info on the footsoldiers trek? I would appreciate any info on the matter.

Dave
