david,

Just found an old emails. This may help with family and CSA reserach. From My good friend and fellow 7th Miss. reseracher Mitch Sanders--

I have a few notes regarding the letters written by Julia A. Magee that may interest you.

Julia Ann Foxworth (1833-1904) was first married to Allen Barnes of Marion County, they had a son & daughter. Allen Barnes was over 20 years older than Julia and died before 1860.

Julia A. and children are next found in the 1860 Pike County Census as the family of Dr. Jacob Oscar Magee (1831-1890). It was in this household that Charles W. Bullock was recuperating.

I may be missing something, but I've failed to make the family connections you have noted.

I will bet you a root beer that Jacob Oscar Magee is the same as this soldier.

"If J. O. Magee was a doctor in the service of The CSA, what would he be doing at home tending wounded?"

Julia Ann Magee's letter is dated May 13, 1862.
The 2nd. Regiment(Quinn's) Mississippi Infantry (State Troops) was organized August 11, 1862 at Camp Tupper, Hinds County.

She states in her letter, the Dr. has been from home several days.
This leads me to believe he was probably tending other wounded soldiers sent South or attending militia meetings prior to the organizing of the 2nd. Regiment.

I may have confused you with my speculations as to why Dr. Magee was not home when this letter was written.
The letter was written three months prior to the organizing of the 2nd. Regiment (State Troops).

My Speculation #1: Dr. Magee was probably also attending to other wounded soldiers sent South. Soldiers wounded from Shiloh & other battles turned up in hospitals in Crystal Springs, Hazlehurst, Brookhaven, & Magnolia. At least one that we know of, Charles W. Bullock, turned up in a private residence.

My Speculation #2 : Dr. Magee may have been attending militia meetings prior to the "official" organizing of the 2nd. Regiment. By this I mean it would have taken a bit of time to enlist enough men for a company, drills were probably held also.

I checked all available census records prior to my first email regarding this family.
