The W.H. Williamson in the 40th was a 2nd Lt., was 35 when he enlisted, and he enlisted at Philadelphia, MS, which was apparently his home. He served at Vicksburg, where he was surrendered, and then in the Atlanta Campaign. He was wounded and captured at the famous Battle of Peachtree Creek and taken POW. He was eventually sent to Johnson's Island, where he may have become one of the legendary "Immortal 600." I hope this is your guy, because he's another Confederate Patriot and hero! Make sure he has a stone pointing out his CS service, too, okay? Youi can order this gallant man's service record from the link at the top of this page, too. (Your purchases provide the funds to keep these boards running. And, trust me, the great guys -- and I'm not one of them -- providing these boards don't make any money off of them!) Thanks for honoring your glorious Southern ancestors, especially in light of the constant barrage of lies and deceit we hear about them in the media every day! -- Jim Huffman, proud descendant of 14 CS grandsires
