A brigade of Union cavalry under Joseph Karge, 2nd New Jersey Cavalry, attacked and captured the Confederates holding the stockade at Egypt Station, Mississippi on December 28, 1864. Miss. State General Gholson was captured in this affair along with about 800 men. A CS flag was also taken by the 2nd New Jersey.

Does anyone have an idea of what unit was holding the stockade?
