Re: Egypt Station, December 1864
The Confederate force included over 250 members of the 10th TN Infantry who had been recruited among union prisoners at Camp Lawton in Millen, Georgia, with a few men recruited directly from Andersonville Prison. They were recruited to join the 10th TN, but never caught up with their regiment. The were ultimately sent to Egypt Station with a mixed force, where the were captured and then transported to Alton Prison in Illinois. Most of the ended up joining the 5th US Infantry, which was a combined galvanized Yankee and galvanized Confederate unit sent to the west to garrison military posts guarding the western frontier.
