Margaret,
There seems to be a bit of confusion concerning John M. Brister's service.
I have found a roster of Co. B published in a May 1862 newspaper that lists
him as Ensign of the Company calling itself the "Bogue Chitto Guards".
An entry in his Compiled Service Record indicates that he "died in Atlanta on
July 19, 1864 from wounds received at New Hope Church".
Col. Bishop's after-action report for Chickamauga indicates that he was a Captain
and killed there on September 20, 1863.
I have not been able to reconcile these two differing statements.
May I ask why the interest in Brister?
