Plans are well under way to place a marker on Cornfield Avenue at Sharpsburg to the memory of the 11th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. The date for the dedication should be August 26th of this year, just before the 150th anniversary of the battle, on September 17th. The design will be similar to the forward marker, next to the Bryan Barn, dedicated to the 11th at Gettysburg that was emplaced about 11 years ago. Company A of the 11th was the famed University Greys from the University of Mississippi. They Greys suffered a 95% casualty rate at Sharpsburg in their charge to, and through, the Cornfield. "Our friends are not dead until they are forgotten", may they never be forgotten!
