William Marsh Vaughan 6th Mississippi Cavalry

Wanting to know if William Marsh Vaughan could have served in two different units.
Facts known:
William M. Vaughan lived in Kemper Co., MS at the time of the 1860 census, he was 16 years old.
After the war he continued to live in Kemper Co., MS until his death in 1886. He is buried
at the Twin Cemetery, Kemper Co., MS and has a Confederate Tombstone, that states:
William M. Vaughan, 6th Miss Cavalry, Co. G.

I do have a copy of his Confederate Index cards for the 6th Cavalry. The first card states
age 17, co. muster roll for Nov 28, 1863 to June 30, 1864, joined for duty & enrolled on
April 1, 1864, Macon, MS. He was absent or detached service.

The second card states, that his name appears on a roll of prisoners of war that were
paroled at Gainesville, Ala., May 12. 1865.

Also found in the county next to Kemper Co., MS a listing for a William Vaughan, mustered
in Oct. 7, 1862 in the 46th Miss Infantry. co. K for the Kemper Guards, aka Mississippi Rangers
(raised in Kemper Co., MS). I have a copy of all this person's index cards. No age is given
on any card, just locations of where this company went. Could William M. Vaughan be the
same William Vaughan, also spelled Vaugh, Vaughn of the 46th Miss Infantry?
