p/s: My SIMMONS family members were residents of Pike County, Mississippi settling there before statedhood when it was the Mississippi Territory. Suprisingly, there were two unrelated SIMMONS families in Pike County before the Civil War. My group is called the Silver Creek Simmons Family in genealogy circles due to the Baptist Church which they helped establish. They moved to Caldwell Parish, Louisiana circa 1860 and the four SIMMONS brothers served in Company B, 31st Louisiana Infantry. Two (including my namesake) died of disease in the swamps of Louisiana bordering the Mississippi River across from Vicksburg within their first six months of service. My great grandfather, William Lundy SIMMONS, and his brother Willis F. SIMMONS, were captured at Vicksburg and released on parole.

Any kin?
