Re: Corp Richmond C Barr-killed 1864?

Sirs: I am the resident expert (and de facto historian) of the Spotsylvania Courthouse Confederate and Fredericksburg Confederate cemeteries.
I applaud your intents and research--- However, Mr. Fazzini's assertion that Cpl. Barr is buried in the Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery is incorrect. Those CSA KIA/MWIA at Spotsy were either left on the Spotsylvania battlefield or re-interred in the Spotsylvania Confederate Cemetery. Sadly, only a small percentage of the KIA/MWIA now rest in the Spotsy CSA Cemetery as only about 800 were reinterred there out of the several thousand. Why? The CSA dead were left on the battlefield as the Army of Northern Virginia had to counter the Army of the Potomac as it moved towards Richmond. The Mississippians in the Spotsy CSA Cem were buried after the battle by a USCT division permanently assigned to burial detail.
One Virginian officer came back to the battlefield just prior to Christmas of 1864 and found his brother and others exactly where they had died and left unburied. He wrote that they had not been molested by animals and were easily recognizable..!
Cpl. Barr is not listed on the Spotsy burial roster; there are no initials on that list matching his. There are but few "unknown" listed.
The very few Spotsy KIA buried in the FDXBG CSA Cemetery are cavalry troopers KIA near Spotsy but closer to Wilderness.
Other Spotsy casualties buried in FDXBG CSA are a handful who were MWIA, POW and died in a USA hospital in FDXBG.
Finally and gruesomely, many KIAs had been decimated by cannon-fire of canister or rifle volleys and others were buried in the mud via the fellow soldiers stepping on them during the 20-hour fighting 5/12-13...

I tried to contact Mr. Fazzini via Find-A-Grave (where he posted a bio of Cpl. Barr at FDXBG CSA Cem.) but his account is no longer active nor is there an email address attributed to him there.
Please feel free to contact me about the above.
Very Respectfully,
Dan Janzegers "BigFrench"
