Note, the next surviving muster roll covers the bi-monthly period July/Aug, 1864. In-as-much as there is no record of him at this muster, he must have been dropped from the rolls on one of the three intervening muster rolls, Jan/Feb, Mar/Apr., or May/Jun, 1864. This could have been for discharge, death, desertion, capture, transfer, etc.

James S. McPherson, age 32, last recorded absent, in parole camp at Demopolis, Ala. on the July/Aug,, 1864 muster roll, no further records
