I am working on a portrait of a soldier in either the 12th or 16th MS Infty. summer of 1863 and I was asked by someone that saw the in progress piece (not for re-enactment BTW); what makes this an MS soldier? I know that in '61 MS uniforms has red facings, but was there anything distinctive about MS uniforms later in the war?
