John A. Wynn, Private, Company D, Withers’ Regiment Light Artillery, Mississippi Voluteers,* enlisted April 10, 1862 at Lexington, Miss by Capt. Wafford for 3 years or the war, recorded that year on records as Wagoner/Teamster, captured along with his Company at Vicksburg, Miss. July 4, 1863 and paroled 7 days later on July 11, subsequently on or about July 22, the Vicksburg army were granted furloughs for periods of up to 60 days, his regiment to report to parole camp at Enterprise, Miss. August 23, he overstayed his leave reporting back December 10, 1863. Following exchange, on February 15, 1864, Several companies of the regiment stationed at Enterprise were ordered to retreat to Demopolis. Arriving there, Companies A and G were attached to General [William Wing] Loring's Division and Companies B, C, D, I, and K were ordered to Mobile, Pvt. Wynn remained behind at Enterprise until some time in July/August, 1864 before reporting back to Mobile where they served until capture of the garrison, April 9, 1865. They were taken to Ship Island, and, after the capitulation by General Taylor, May 4, transferred to Vicksburg and recorded paroled at Camp Townsend May 6, 1865.

If he did not return home post war, he may very well have been bushwhacked and killed by roving gangs on the road home. This was not uncommon at the time.
