Coincidence??? I went to civilwardata.com and searched the soldiers of the MS 8th Cav. In Company I, there was a J.B.Raulston , a private. Possibly your J.B.Roland?

I also looked for M.Welch. There was a W.R.Welch, 2nd LT. who was KIA at Brice's Crossroads on 6-10-64. a "W" can easily be misread as "M".

Either of these guys could have been at the skirmish you mention.
