Thanks, Rick! No, I hadn't see that. Another good part of the puzzle. I'm feeling much more settled that my g-grandfather was most likely in this single unit for the duration of his service. Reliable stories from more than one source tell of him being wounded on more than one occasion, albeit not severely. Particularly one instance where he was shot through the mouth, knocking out teeth on both sides. This was to have happened at Murfreesboro, which I had assumed was at Stone's River, but looking at the history of the 7th B'n (which was not at Stone's River as far as I know), I guess that incident could have happened at later engagements around Murfreesburo with Gen. Forrest in Dec. of '64. Would love to find some record of that action too.
