Re: Returns of Deceased Soldiers
In Response To: Returns of Deceased Soldiers ()

Let me mention the important information contained in "Quarterly Return of Deceased Soldiers of the [Eighty-First (81st). for example] Regiment of the [Tennessee Vols] for the Quarter Ending the [31st] of [March 1863].

I use the example seen at https://www.fold3.com/image/20/83743789

The information on a deceased soldier includes
-- name (sometimes more informative than just the initials shown on his CSR)
-- rank
-- company
-- when and where he died
-- cause of death
-- columns concerning his pay (how much owed to him or how much he owes CS government)
-- retained bounty [??? his survivors did not receive the bounty???]
-- how much he owes the laundress
-- date his personal inventory and his financial statement was forwarded to the Adjutant General
-- his station
-- the date of report
-- his commanding officer's signature

Thanks again, for any assistance.
