My gg grandparents lived in Gallatin, Copiah Co. during the War. My gg grandmother Sarah Simpson Rea would sit on her porch and could hear the heavy siege guns at Vicksburg, knowing she had two sons in the trenches there. The sound of the large guns carried that far at times.

Her sons were George W. Rea, Co. G, 36th MS and Robert W. Rea, Cos G and D, 36th MS. George did not survive the War, Robert did. After the War, Robert got his MD degree from the medical school that later became Tulane. He practiced in Wesson until his death in 1923.
