Sounds like a model P53 three-band Enfield rifle, not a smoothbore. In 1862 Confederate agents in Europe secured contracted for rifled firearms rather than obsolete smoothbore weapons. If this particular Enfield was manufactured by Parker Field & Sons of London, it should look like this example --
