It's always interesting to put flesh on bones in this way. The parole is usually the point at which the military record ends, so I'm interested in what happened next, the road home and starting over.

If that part interests you, perhaps you'll enjoy the Richard Gere/Jodie Foster movie titled "Somersby". I particularly like a series of opening shots depicting a Confederate soldier during his long, lonely journey towards home. Those who have seen the movie will recall one of these scenes in which the Confederate has to take the side of the road while a column of Federal soldiers march past. No dialogue, but the look he gives them provides a lot of meaning to the scene.
