There is quite a bit on the internet regarding Laban Odell and the 22nd North Carolina Infantry. Here is a listing for him.

Parents: JAMES ODELL, ANNA TROGDON
Spouse: MARY CRAVEN

Listed 1860 Federal Census for Randolph County, NC.

Residence Randolph County NC; 24 years old.
Enlisted on 6/10/1861 at Randolph County, NC as a 1st Lieutenant.
On 6/10/1861 he mustered into "M" Co. NC 22nd Infantry
Transfered on 16 March 1863 from company M to company S .
Promoted to Full Major on 16 March 1863
Killed on 03 May 1863 in Chancellorsville, VA
