He soon after enlisting. There is but one muster roll card in his file, the other two being enrolled on the NC Roll of Honor and the claim for his effects.

William C. Simpson, volunteer, enlisted May 8, 1862 into Company D, 45th North Carolina, at Goldsboro, N. C., died at Halifax, NC June 11, 1862, resident of Rockingham, County

A claim for his effects were presented by Jas. T or F Simpson, Adm. [Administrator?] on October 2, 1862, which discloses that William died at Goldsboro, N.C.
