Apparently there was no standard procedure for paroles issued to Confederate soldiers.

What's seen in the North Carolina parole microfilm are muster rolls signed by a Confederate commanding officer (usually a company commander), countersigned by a Federal officer. The same is true for paroles issued to General Taylor's army in camp at Gainesville AL, Meridian MS and other nearby points. The only individual paroles which appear to have been signed with Taylor's army were issued to commissioned officers. I've not seen any of those issued to members of General Johnston's command.
