i sincerely thank you for your time. these men, the james kirks, confuse me.
one item says captured, one says awol. excuse my ignorance on this war, but how do you read his eventual demise/life? the info about a jw kirk enlisted in Grenada County, MS tells me this one is likely the one i am searching for. he and family lived around there in 1860. he does not show anywhere in a census after 1860, tho his wife and apparent children do, on the 1870 census in grenada. his child george kirk, b 1857, might be my GGrandfather, the man i cant find anywhere. a george kirk came from nowhere and married my GGrandmother a couple counties over in 1884. if this soldier was a deserter, they may have all gone no telling where to hide? might thee have been a pension for her, Amanda Cochran Kirk?? what is your expert guess on this soldier? njk
