How does one go about finding a missing deceased Confederate soldier? My g-g-Uncle John W. Porter belonged to Co. D, 2nd Battalion, North Carolina Infantry. His military papers say he died 22 Oct 1861. There is no information about if or where he is buried, suspect he may hae been one of the Unknowns. How can I find out exactly where CO. D was in 22,23 Oct 1861? I would appreciate any help or direction.
