[Having arrived near Petersburg] On the 21st of June [1864] we had an engagement with the enemy and remained on picket for one week during which time we had frequent skirmishes with the enemy and kept up a line on the railroad during the month of June. Fred Harding, Capt. Co. K, 3 N. D. Cavy.
