True. Sherman was not political. In the beginning he was about to be sacked for being crazy, until Grant took him under his wing. One wonders how long Robert E. Lee would have held out if he and the ANV had to have dealt with men such as Sheridan, Sherman, and Grant, all together as the western armies did. But then the western armies didn't have commanders the caliber of Lee, Jackson, and Stuart together. It would have been very interesting to see two armies, at the start of the war with everyone fresh, go at it with men such as Sherman, Grant, and Sheridan, against such commanders as Lee, Jackson, and Stuart. Could you imagine the bloody fights that would have ensued?
