Interesting, as a military written communication this was not written by a professional. Military correspondance, even then, was structured and followed certain rules. This was not written by or reviewed by an Adjutant. It is very emotional, it is petty, and makes acqusations of fraud, and does not follow the chain of command, but goes directly to the Governor of the State. These men sure were surely upsetting the cart for a one month involuntary extension to their service time. Either these men were forced to the extreme or incorrectly thought this was the way to handle a problem such as this.

Military Civil War correspondence is very interesting to me. You can tell the professional soldiers from the volunteers by the writtings. General Forrest had an outstanding adjutant who wrote for him, probably one of the best in the war.
