William R. Trotter's "Bushwhackers - The Civil War in North Carolina - The Mountains".

I've read that book. Back when I used to just lurk here, there were just two Yankees posting on this board. Mike Gerow and James "Cump" Turchin...James had family from Western NC and recommended the book. A lot of Trotter's work is based on Phillip Shaw Paludan's... Victims. The movie Cold Mountain has a scene from it, where a Union soldier has a woman tied to a tree in the middle of winter and her baby laying on the ground. In the movie if she tells him her info, he will let them go inside. Thing is,in the true story in the book, it's Rebel soldiers doing it to some lady in Western North Carolina.
