Strange isn't it? I have been told I don't speak 'Southern' a few times. Never lived anywhere but Pensacola. I do remember being reminded to 'speak properly' by my Mom and Aunt (an Educator). The switch in Moms hand may have swayed my dialect a bit. Being a military town, I also have been friends with many from 'other' parts of the US and some of their speech patterns may have rubbed off on me.
