Martin, thanks for your great analysis of KY's contribution to the fighting forces! Despite a significant Union presence in that state, it remained for the victors to memorialize those who did not yield to the peer pressure of treason and stood true to the old flag. The rebs can have their Bourbon County and its brew from hell, but as for this chile, give me a uniform of blue over gray any old day. Give me a winner over a loser.

You ever see that movie, "The Great Santini" with Robert Duval? Final scene of the movie is them driving out of Beaufort, SC singing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," a winner's song.

Ever notice how "Dixie" sounds about as substantial as a 1950s novelty song about your chewing gum losing its flavor on the bedpost overnight, whereas the BHotR sounds majestic and permanent?
