Going on sale in New Orleans on May 14, 1861 this is one of many photographs by J. D. Edwards of the military stand-off at Pensacola Bay. This is the Confederate camps and four-gun sand battery immediately below the Pensacola Lighthouse (190 feet above sea-level). These are the tents of Alabama troops. In the distance on a low sand dune is Fort McRee. This maybe, arguably, one of the first combat "aerial" photographs taken by Edwards that day.
