Re: CSS Alabama yields a sailor's remains

Interesting story. Not too long ago the History Channel carried a documentary of the dives conducted by the American and French Divers. There was a French lady who coordinated everything. She was a curator of a local museum. She talked of the ongoing local interest in the war, because of the battle. There was only about two weeks each summer when the weather was good enough to dive. The water depth, and decompression staging required, limited dive times to only a few minutes. A major accomplishment was raising one of the cannons. Given the sea life encrusting it, and the crewman's location under it, I can see how he was preserved. Of course, as noted, they never mentioned finding human remains.

When the Monitor turret was raised, there were two crewmen inside. I don't remember their disposition. Of further interest, someone who was there posted the interment of the crew of the Hunley. They found the coin which stopped a bullet at Shiloh for the Lt. who commanded the Hunley. Stan
