Norman, I'm not going to get into the numbers topic but I want to say it is my humble opinion that while the South almost alway fought outnumbered the real difference in numbers was shown when the war dragged out. The North could sustain heavy casualties and still have manpower to spare while the South simply couldn't replace the troops it lost.

Jusy my opinion so don't consider that gospel but I believe most in here would agree with it.
