Anytime the Consutution is gone around it leaves a hole for further traffic to follow. Your wonderful Mr. Lincoln would have rather had free rein to "save his Union". Instead of rules to prevent him from doing as he pleased.

As any Good Southerner knows,,,,,Deo Vindici

Stephen, if you and Paul don't mind me chiming in, you bring up several good points of discussion. I do know that Jefferson Davis was considered a first-rate Constitutional scholar. The fact that he was late to bail out is interesting. Wonder why? Was he hoping for some kind of settlement? It seems to me that a lot of saber rattlers on both sides of the issue were dying to get it on.

Turns out Abe threw the first and last punches, but Davis thew a good many good ones in between :)

What's this Deo Vindici all about? I see it frequently in various places relating to the Civil War? HAve a general idea that it pertains to the fact that God will avenge the South, but is there more to it than that, especially in today with reenactors or other Southern heritage types like the Southern Poverty Law Center?

thanks!
