I've never been to the fort when it wasn't stifeling. I believe it has to do with the pine trees. The air doesn't seem to move at all anywhere in that area, especially between the redoubt and the fort.

No, I don't believe those that were assigned to the fort slept there. Most probably they slept in tents just outside around the fort or at the barracks to the northeast. The forts passageways didn't seem to be comfortable to live in, either too wet or too stuffy.

They were tough, young, and wirey too our ancestors, but I'll post some pictures I have of some very uncomfortable soldiers that had their photos made at their tent in the summer, you can tell as soon as the picture was done....off with the uniforms! Whew!
