Just an observation (with no knowledge of the subject). If they were trained to fight Indian style, wouldn't the sounds they used in battle be more in line with the sounds/yells Native Anericans made in battle (and had used for several centuries), rather than the Confederate or Rebel yell?

I've never heard the Rebel yell, and only know Hollywood's version of the Native American battle cries, so I don't know if there is a significant different between the two. Maybe they are similar.
