Hard to say. The Rebel Yell in 1861 may have been influenced by the local tribes of the South or a mixture of yells. Nobody really knows. By the 1890s the Marines were being instructed by men who may have known the power of the Rebel Yell and and incorporated a like war cry in their training. The Indian style fighting by the marines was a seperate issue of how to close with the enemy quickly without losing too many men, learned through the Indian Wars that had only ended a couple of decades before. The war cry of the marines in WWI seems to be a modified hunters call, like a fox hunter, also simular to what is discribed as a type of Rebel Yell.
