" The fomer president had flown to Greece in 1964 to represent the United States at the funeral of King Paul I.
Prince Michael, their escort, welcomed his guest by saying
'I feel very close to the United States because my great-grandfather was aide-de-camp to General Grant. Truman replied on behalf of the Southern-born first lady and himself. 'Well son as far as this lady and I are concerned, the was on the wrong side.'

Harry Truman's grandparents were all slaveholders.'

Truman's mother at age 92 visited him in the White House
"Margaret Truman teased her grandmother saying Harry was going to put her in the Lincoln Bedroom. Mama Truman replied that she would sleep on the floor. When the conversation turned to a certain politician according to Margaret. her grandmother asked 'isn't he a yankee?'. Yes Mamma, Dad (Harry) said, but you know there are good Yankees as well as bad and good Rebels. 'Well, I haven't seen one yet" Mamma Truman replied.'

Two of his uncles served in the 12th Missouri Cavalry, a confederate Regiment which fought with General Sterling Price during his 1864 raid through Missouri."
