To be honest, it doesn't seem as if the Union tried to 'explain' anything with a catch phrase. They won, they didn't have to. The post war studies possibly may have been considered pointless.
As to the possible name for the Union ideals after the war---Reconstruction/Re destruction. Either way, that is the way they followed up.
