Perhaps Mr. Medved's use of the phrase "served in the Confederate Army" differs form ours. Given that imprecision in wording, we can then agree with Dr. Bergeron's and Jim's assessment. There's room for speculation. When I read the story of Bill Yopp, of the 14th Georgia, posted earlier, as the only black buried in the Marietta Confederate Cemetery, I looked him up in the NPCWSS. His captain and namesake was listed, but Mr. Yopp was not. I agree with Jamie, that it is not imperitive that thousands of blacks fought for the South. That they did not abscond or revolt en masse is significant enough. Stan
