Thanks, Jim! I appreciate your taking the time to point out the interesting stuff in Memphis. We, in this town, are also poor stewards of the past, which is a sad but accurate way of characterizing it.
For example, the 1894 Julia Dent Grant House, built in part to house US Grant's papers, was razed about 5 years ago to make way for a condo high rise. The local historian / preservationist crowd, which fielded a generally ineffectual campaign against the developers, claimed that it was the nation's first presidential library build expressly for that purpose.
Oh well, just another great historical resource sacrificed on the altar of greed, I mean, progress.
